Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement Program
Do you have some good quality remnant vegetation that you’d like to protect? There is help available to you to protect and restore native vegetation on your land.
Native Vegetation Council Heritage Agreement incentive grants are available. The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board’s Native Vegetation Heritage Outreach Officer supports and encourages landholders to apply for grants and access state government funding to support and enhance their native vegetation and biodiversity endeavours.
The Native Vegetation Heritage Outreach Officer has the knowledge and expertise to provide support to landholders to apply for a Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement and identify opportunities on their property to establish an agreement.
What is a Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement
A Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement (NVHA) is an agreement between a landowner and the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water, on recommendation of the Native Vegetation Council (NVC), to protect and restore native plants and animals on private land. These agreements are established in perpetuity and stay on the land even if the property is sold or leased.
The agreements provide important refuge for flora and fauna and contributes to the South Australia’s protected area network, also including Conservation Parks and private wildlife sanctuaries.
Land under a heritage agreement maybe valued differently because of its conservation status and may help to reduce property taxes and rates.
Native Vegetation Council Heritage Agreement Incentive Grants 2024-2026
If you are interested in a new heritage agreement or want to expand an existing one, the NVC is offering landowners the opportunity to apply for an incentive grant. This opportunity is additional to the NVHA Grant Program and is being funded by the NVC.
The grants are for short term (1-5 year) projects that help to protect native vegetation and enhance its condition.
The program is available to all landowners across South Australia. Applications can be submitted any time before 30 June 2026, however landowners are encouraged to apply early for the best chance of securing funding. The opportunity to apply maybe withdrawn once funding is fully committed or at the discretion of the NVC.
