Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement Program

Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement Program

Do you have some native vegetation that you’d like to protect? There is help available to you to protect and restore native vegetation on your land.

Native Vegetation Council restoration grants

Native Vegetation Council restoration grants are now open to landowners in the Murraylands and Riverland region. This opportunity will enable you to apply for funding to restore and protect native vegetation on your property.

Restoration grants are for long term (5 - 10 year) projects that will provide a significant benefit to native vegetation by improving condition and increasing protection through a new Heritage Agreement. These grants are not available to you if vegetation is already protected by a Heritage Agreement.

The closing date for application is 16 May 2025. Information about the grant application process, including application form, can be found on the Department for Environment and Water website.

Native Vegetation Council Heritage Agreement Incentive Grants 2024-2026

If you are interested in a new heritage agreement or want to expand an existing one, the NVC is offering landowners the opportunity to apply for an incentive grant. This opportunity is additional to the NVHA Grant Program and is being funded by the NVC.

The grants are for short term (1-5 year) projects that help to protect native vegetation and enhance its condition.

The program is available to all landowners across South Australia. Applications can be submitted any time before 30 June 2026, however landowners are encouraged to apply early for the best chance of securing funding. The opportunity to apply maybe withdrawn once funding is fully committed or at the discretion of the NVC.

What is a Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement

A Native Vegetation Heritage Agreement (NVHA) is an agreement between a landowner and the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water, on recommendation of the Native Vegetation Council (NVC), to protect and restore native plants and animals on private land. These agreements are established in perpetuity and stay on the land even if the property is sold or leased.

The agreements provide important refuge for flora and fauna and contributes to the South Australia’s protected area network, also including Conservation Parks and private wildlife sanctuaries.

Land under a heritage agreement maybe valued differently because of its conservation status and may help to reduce property taxes and rates.
