Floodplain planning
Floodplain planning aims to maximise the health of floodplains and the River Murray in the Murraylands and Riverland region. A floodplain plan coordinates the surface water, groundwater and land management actions to ensure maximum environmental benefit. These actions can include:
- weir raising and lowering
- removing barriers to fish and water flow
- wetland regulation
- floodplain regulation
- watering red gums
- pest plant and animal control
- revegetation.
There are currently floodplain plans in place for three priority areas in the Murraylands and Riverland region:
