Floodplain planning

Floodplain planning aims to maximise the health of floodplains and the River Murray in the Murraylands and Riverland region. A floodplain plan coordinates the surface water, groundwater and land management actions to ensure maximum environmental benefit. These actions can include:

  • weir raising and lowering
  • removing barriers to fish and water flow
  • wetland regulation
  • floodplain regulation
  • watering red gums
  • pest plant and animal control
  • revegetation.

There are currently floodplain plans in place for three priority areas in the Murraylands and Riverland region:
