Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board on Hand to Help at Karoonda Farm Fair 2023
Find out more about the work and services of the landscape boards at this year's Karoonda Farm Fair.
The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board will be on site at this year’s Karoonda Farm Fair to showcase the resources and support available to the region’s community and land managers.
Located at 17-18 Stokes Road, landscape board staff will represent the breadth of the organisation’s work, including sustainable agriculture, landscape ecology, education, citizen science and sustainable water use.
Members of the public and land managers are encouraged to drop into the landscape board’s marquee to catch up with staff members and find out about the latest initiatives on topics such as pest and weed control, soil health and soil conservation, and the future of native species including malleefowl and regent parrots.
The marquee will keep the whole family entertained with plenty of activities for the kids. Animals Anonymous will have a collection of native animals on show and visitors can also practice their detective skills with a “Find our Fungi” competition. The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board tent also makes up part of the Mallee Stump Trail and is a learning destination for Children’s University participants.
“We’re looking forward to being at this year’s Karoonda Farm Fair, and it’s a great opportunity for our staff to engage with members of the community and talk about the work we do to help develop sustainable and resilient landscapes,” said General Manager Andrew Meddle.
“Our sustainable agriculture and district officer teams will be on board to talk to land managers about the initiatives we’re involved in to help build healthy, productive soils and manage pest plants and animal issues,” he added.
“Water license holders in the Mallee Prescribed Wells and Peake Roby and Sherlock areas are also encouraged to come and talk to us about upcoming amendments to the Water Allocation Plan. We’re keen to get input from the community so these can be considered as part of the future planning for local groundwater users.”
The Murray-Darling Basin Authority, PIRSA, Biosecurity SA, SA Drought Hub and the Farm Forestry Network will also have a presence within the marquee.
The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board marquee will be located at 17-18 Stokes Road, open on both days from 9 am – 5 pm.
This project is funded by the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board through the landscape levies.
