Empowering the Next Generation: Supporting Teachers in Environmental Education

Are you looking for ways to engage students with the natural world?

Our Education team is committed to helping teachers bring locally relevant environmental learning into the classroom and beyond. With a range of hands-on activities, curriculum-aligned resources, and practical support, the program provides everything educators need to explore environmental topics with their students.

So what’s on offer?

Empowering the Next Generation: Supporting Teachers in Environmental Education

Education sessions

Designed to align with the Australian Curriculum, our education sessions are led by our education officers who love making learning fun and interactive. Sessions can be delivered in the classroom or outdoors, giving students the chance to explore and learn in a way that sparks curiosity and fosters a connection to their natural environment.

Resources for teachers

The team knows how busy teachers are, so they’ve created a library of ready-to-go resources to make incorporating environmental education easier. From lesson ideas and activities to interactive loan kits, everything is designed to support teachers and keep students engaged. Best of all, the resources can be easily adapted for different age groups, from early years to high school.

But wait – there’s more!

All resources are aligned with the Australian Curriculum and are tailored to explore the landscapes in the Murraylands and Riverland. Topics include local native animals, rivers and wetlands, sustainable agriculture and mallee woodlands.

Professional development workshops

Our professional development workshops are designed to build your knowledge in teaching about local environmental topics and integrating sustainability into the curriculum. These sessions, delivered by local research and industry experts, are hands-on, practical, and a great way to network with other educators who share your passion for the environment.

Support for schools

Got a big idea for a sustainability project but not sure where to start? Or maybe your school is looking to get involved in a broader environmental initiative? The Education team can help! We work closely with schools to develop tailored programs and offer ongoing guidance to bring your ideas to life.

By taking part in the Education program, you’re inspiring the next generation to care about our environment. Together, we can empower students to think critically, act responsibly, and make a positive impact on the world around them.

We also offer youth voice programs, such as the Young Environmental Leaders (YEL) for students in years 5-6 and the River Murray Youth Council (RMYC) for years 7-12. These programs provide students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills, deepen their understanding of local landscapes, and actively contribute to environmental conservation. Through YEL and RMYC, students can engage in real-world initiatives, empowering them to make a positive impact on their environment.

Oh, and guess what the BEST part is? The Education program is completely FREE!
