Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board Calls for Board Member Nominations
The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board is calling for members of the community to consider becoming a board member as a way to play a valuable role in regional ecological sustainability.
The organisation oversees the sustainable management of natural resources in the region, focusing on the conservation of land, water and biodiversity in collaboration with local communities. Reflecting the importance of grassroots input, the landscape board is led by a collective of community members who act as a voice for their local communities and environment, and provide valuable input into the organisation’s strategic direction.
Presiding Member Di Davidson AM said that she encouraged Murraylands and Riverland locals to consider becoming a board member.
“Those with a background in environmental management, agriculture, ecology, First Nation’s engagement and citizen science are encouraged to consider becoming a board member, but equally we value skills and experience in governance, financial management, the public sector and local government,” she said.
“We are particularly interested in creating a diverse and inclusive board so women, First Nation’s people and those from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply,” she added.
“What’s particularly important is that the board is made up of community leaders who are committed to regional sustainability and have the drive and enthusiasm to make a difference”.
The current recruitment drive is aiming to fill a number of vacant board positions for a 4-year term. New board members will be appointed by the Minister for Climate, Environment and Water to begin at the end of January 2025.
“Board members a remunerated for their time through sitting fees and travel expenses are also covered. Being a member of the board requires around 2-3 days commitment per month,” said Mrs Davidson.
