New District Officer Joins Effort to Combat Pest Plant and Animal Species in the Riverland
The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board welcomes new District Officer, Bonnie Leonard to its Riverland District Team.
Based in the Berri office, Bonnie will assist landholders to tackle pest plant and animal species, supporting conservation and farming efforts.
Growing up on a cattle property in the Adelaide Hills, Bonnie developed a passion for animals and plants from an early age which led her to complete a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at the University of Adelaide in 2022.
Driven by a desire to explore a new area of interest, she decided to pursue a Master of Teaching, specialising in Agriculture.
"I hope to combine all my skills and interests in my role as a district officer to communicate the importance of caring for our landscapes. Managing pest plants and animals is important for native landscapes and animals, as well as having huge impacts for the agriculture and horticulture sectors," Miss Leonard said.
“I’m passionate about conserving our environment so that everyone can enjoy its natural beauty. At the same time, I understand how important the agricultural and horticultural industries are to the local community, so it is wonderful to assist landholders and help mitigate the challenges they face,” she added.
Riverland District Team Leader, Hannah Spronk, said that Miss Leonard’s passion for the environment and experience in community engagement made her an ideal fit for the organisation.
Miss Leonard is also looking forward to working with the region’s youth, as she will serve as a mentor on the landscape board’s River Murray Youth Council.
Landholders in the Riverland district who require assistance with pest plant and animal control should call the landscape board on 08 8580 1800.
This project is supported by the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board with funding from the landscape levies.
