Inspiring Environmental Changemakers, One School At A Time

If you're passionate about the environment and love seeing young people step up to make a difference, then the Young Environmental Leaders (YEL) program is something to get excited about!

Designed for students in year 5/6 who want to be champions for the environment, YEL is all about giving students the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become environmental leaders in their schools and communities. Throughout the year, students come together to share ideas, take part in hands-on learning experiences, and work on real-world projects that help protect and improve our local landscapes.

What’s in it for students?

From learning about biodiversity and water conservation to tackling pest species and climate change, YEL provides students with a chance to dive deep into environmental topics that matter. They’ll get to connect with like-minded peers and industry experts, develop practical skills, and gain the confidence to lead change within their schools and communities.

What’s in it for schools?

Schools benefit by having enthusiastic young leaders who bring fresh ideas and energy to environmental initiatives. Whether it’s starting a recycling program, planting native gardens, or running awareness campaigns, the positive ripple effect of YEL participants can be felt across the entire school community. School staff who accompany students to the YEL forums will also gain valuable knowledge, experience and a deeper understanding of the local landscapes. They will also be exposed to a range of experts and provided with resources and ideas to better engage students.

Why it matters?

The challenges our environment faces can feel overwhelming, but programs like YEL show young people that their efforts, no matter how small, can make a real difference. By empowering students today, we’re helping to create the environmental leaders of tomorrow.
